Salsa night at the Bohemian National Hall
29 December 2009
On December 18th 2009, Karisma Dance Company celebrated their 10-year anniversary at the Bohemian National Hall. This momentous occasion was a night of the best of the best, featuring special performances by the top mambo performers of the world; Eddie Torres and Griselle Ponce, Santo Rico, Yamulee, La Magia Dancers and Karisma Dance Company.
Ten years ago, Victor Mayovanex, Director, decided to embark on his own exploration to take the art of mambo dancing to the highest level possible. Upon its onset, Karisma Dance Company immediately captured the attention of the mambo community. The group was highly praised as being "the most elegant mambo company." Karisma Dance Company possesses a rare charm and appeal that was much needed in the mambo scene. It was this magnetism that lured the people to recognize Karisma as an esteemed professional dance company.
Under Mayovanex’s leadership, Karisma has performed at several of the most prestigious venues in New York City including the Beacon Theater, the Waldorf Astoria, the Mariott Marquis and the United Nations. Karisma has also performed at the ACE Awards in 2001, Hilary Clinton's Gala event in Washington, D.C. in 2002, and Jon Corzine/President Barack Obama’s campaign rally in November 2009. In addition, Karisma has also opened for recording artists such as Grupo Niche, Tito Nieves, Jose Alberto "El Canario," Eddy Herrera and Sergio Vargas.
Their constant dedication to style, grace, and charm in their dancing gives Karisma its unique name. With invitations to perform in countries around the world, it is their goal to continue reaching audiences outside of the mambo community and establish Karisma as one of the finest internationally touring companies in Latin Dance.
