Opera Through the Eyes of a Make-Up Artist

A lecture by Victor Callegari, a make-up artist at the Metropolitan Opera, in connection with the special exhibition Rusalka at the Czech Center New York.

Victor Callegari has been a make-up artist at the Metropolitan Opera for over forty years. He shares stories and images from his wealth of experience, including his work with many of the world’s premiere opera singers. The presentation will include the showing of a selection of approximately 50 digitized scans featuring theatrical make-up done on some of the greatest opera singers at the Metropolitan Opera House. Each scan will be explained from the perspective of the actual make-up, as well as of the character portrayed.
