February 28, 2017 , 7:00 PM
Musicologist Christopher H. Gibbs and stage director Anne Bogart discuss their work on a new staging of Antonín Dvořák’s rarely performed grand opera Dimitrij for the 2017 Bard SummerScape festival.
Anne Bogart is Head of the Directing Concentration at Columbia University School of the Arts, and co-artistic director of the acclaimed theater ensemble SITI Company. Christopher H. Gibbs is James H. Ottaway Jr. Professor of Music at Bard College, artistic codirector of the Bard Music Festival, and executive editor of The Musical Quarterly. Bard SummerScape is known for presenting new and rarely performed works in the Frank Gehry-designed Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts on Bard College’s campus in the Hudson Valley. The festival’s new production of Dimitrij is thought to be the first full staging in the U.S., and is presented in conjunction with the 2017 Bard Music Festival: Chopin and His World.
This presentation is part of the Czech Center NY’s month-long exhibition on Antonin Dvorak's opera Rusalka,
